Make your Federal tax payments online. As of January 1, 2011, you will not be able to take your Federal tax payments to your bank for deposit. The US Treasury will not be supporting this system. Many banks have already quit taking the deposits. These deposits include payroll tax and estimated Federal income tax payments. You must enroll in EFTPS to make your Federal tax payments. Enrollment must be done in advance. It takes 10 - 15 days to complete the enrollment process. You can use the EFTPS system either via the internet or telephone and they are interchangeable.
